Dr. Stephens graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in biology and a minor in chemistry from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Following his successful graduation, he received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. Dr. Stephens then performed a diagnostic radiology residency with Methodist Hospital of Indiana in Indianapolis where he also served as chief resident for a year.

Dr. Stephens is certified by the American Board of Radiology. He has performed research as an investigator with the Northern Indiana Cancer Research Consortium and was lead author of a published trial in Indiana Medicine on the role of computed tomography in diverticulitis.
